In-Situ Hardness Testing Services
What Is It
Test Metal Hardness Where the Component Stands
A pipeline, pressure vessel, or large forging cannot always be taken to a laboratory. Cutting out a sample may also be impractical when the component is already installed or in service.
IRC Engineering brings hardness testing to the equipment using the portable Ultrasonic Contact Impedance (UCI) method. A probe makes a small indentation in the prepared surface and measures a change in ultrasonic frequency to determine hardness. This gives inspection teams readings on site without removing a sample.
Our in-situ hardness testing covers:
- Piping
- Pressure vessels
- Welds and heat-affected zones
- Large forgings
- Structural steel
Why UCI
Why Choose In-Situ Hardness Testing?
Portable UCI testing helps verify material and weld hardness directly on components that are difficult to move or sample.
No Sample Removal
Test installed or large components in place, with only a small indentation left at each test point.
Fast On-Site Readings
Check welds, heat-affected zones, and base metal without waiting for laboratory sample testing.
